A 28-year-old bartender who is already facing a fourth offense in Sumner County was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Saturday after he allegedly fled the scene of crash in Murfreesboro.

Ryan S. Sidebottom, who has been charged with a DUI fifth offense, is accused of crashing his truck just before 2 a.m. and fleeing the area on foot, according to a Murfreesboro Police Department arrest report.

“I responded to the area of North Rutherford Boulevard in reference to a vehicle crash,” Officer Ricky Haley reported. “Upon arrival, no driver could be located at the scene of the crash. A short time later, Sgt. (Bryan) Anderson located a male subject under a pine tree at the intersection of Greenland Drive.”

Soon after he was located, Haley made contact with Sidebottom, who reportedly appeared to be extremely intoxicated.

“Sidebottom had the odor of an alcoholic intoxicant, blood shot eyes, slurred speech, and was unsteady on his feet,” Haley reported, adding that due to the circumstances and open containers of beer inside the car, field sobriety tests were not administered at the crash site.

Once in custody, Haley conducted a routine warrants check and learned that Sidebottom was wanted in Sumner County on a fourth DUI charge.

Sidebottom was then transported to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, where he was also charged with violation of the implied consent law and leaving the scene of an accident.

Later that day, Sidebottom was released on a $4,500 bond from the Rutherford County jail and transferred to Sumner County, where he remains in custody on a $15,000 bond.
