Drivers who use Barfield Road will have to find another route during the day for two weeks beginning Monday while Consolidated Utility District crews install new water lines.
Barfield Road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday through Nov. 6 from Kimbro Road to Barfield-Crescent Road, said CUD Assistant General Manager Bill Dunill.
Drivers will probably use South Church Street or Armstrong Valley Road as alternate routes.
Cost of the project is $4.5 million. The installation of 30-inch water lines will link the pump station at Rucker Lane across Barfield-Crescent Park to the Tiger Hill tank.
The Tiger Hill tank serves the southern half of Rutherford County. Water from the water plant feeds through the Tiger Hill zone.
“We will have the ability to put more water in that area than we have in the past,” Dunill said.
CUD originally intended to get the water loop completed in conjunction with the construction of Veterans Parkway. But since the city of Murfreesboro delayed construction of the parkway, CUD may have to repay the road because of the water line project.
“This has been a terrible inconvenience,” Dunill said. “Unfortunately, in certain areas, there is no way to lay a water line except in the roadway. Obviously, we’d like to be off the roadway.”
When the project is complete, CUD will be out of the road.
County Highway Superintendent Mike Williams said the county road will be closed until CUD finishes the project.
