Barbecue's best prepares for McMinnville festival

The McMinnville-Warren County Chamber of Commerce and the City of McMinnville will hold its annual Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned Smokin’ in McMinnville festival Saturday, Aug. 11, in the McMinnville Civic Center.

Kansas City Barbecue Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and enjoying barbecue.

McMinnville has long appreciated large public events that bring people into town to enjoy good food, fellowship, and entertainment. Smokin’ in McMinnville, promises to be no different but at the same time provide the type of event offering fun for all ages.

Professional barbecue teams roll into McMinnville setting up their smokers in McMinn-ville. While hometown heroes and barbecue aficionados fire up their smokers for the “Best of the Butts” Charity Competition Friday night.

Admission to savor each local charity’s entry is $5.

Professional teams will compete in chicken, ribs, pork, and brisket and back-yard teams can compete in chicken or ribs.

McMinnville’s Gilley Pool will be open all day Friday and Saturday with special admission for swimming, special games and music and continuing until the pool party wraps up at 9 p.m. Local favorite, UTOPIA will rock the stage Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with their Old School, R&B, Soul, and Dance songs. Local favorites will keep the crowd entertained all day Saturday. Craig Morrison will close out the festival Saturday, beginning at 7 p.m..  

This is a family friendly event including a children’s play zone and inflatables.
