Balloons will be released in honor of the Hallee Cartwright’s birthday Saturday at 9 a.m. from the athletic fields at Providence Christian Academy off DeJarnette Lane.

Cartwright, who died of complications of flu last fall, would have celebrated her 13th birthday on the 13th.

Born in 1997, she died Oct. 9, 2009 of flu and other complications that worsened with incredible speed.

Her death stunned her close-knit school and the community.

Her mother, Rhonda Cartwright Wiser, described Saturday’s event as “just a celebration of Hallee’s life. We’re just going to be happy.”

People can put a note to Hallee on balloons if they would like, Wiser said, adding the program would include a prayer, a talk celebrating Hallee’s life and time to attach notes to the balloons before the release.

Just after the untimely death, Hallee’s mom said she will remember the young girl as “a wonderful child, a giver who put others above herself. She wouldn’t make a decision without knowing what other people wanted and what would make them happy.

“She loved life. I was so blessed to have her,” Wiser added then.

Providence has set up the Hallee Cartwright Scholarship fund
