Author/artist Jan Brett will visit Hastings in Murfreesboro at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 18 on her national book tour.
Brett’s breathtakingly beautiful artwork and sublime storytelling have delighted readers for more than 30 years. Since the start of her career, more than 35 million of her books have been sold. This spring, Jan has created an original Easter story featuring a loveable bunny hero, Hoppi.
Every year the rabbits’ decorate eggs for the Easter Rabbit to hide on Easter morning. The rabbit who makes the best egg gets to help him deliver them to the boys and girls. But it is not so easy, with so many talented bunnies in the forest. Discouraged, Hoppi goes into the woods to think. A blue robin’s egg tumbles out of its nest, and changes everything. Hoppi forgets about making an egg and keeps the robin’s egg safe and warm until the baby bird hatches. When the Easter Rabbit arrives, he chooses the empty blue eggshell as the best of the Easter eggs to reward Hoppi for his selflessness.
Throughout the book, sumptuously colored images of spring highlight this story with pussy willows, busy woodland creatures and flowering vines and blossoms. “The Easter Egg” celebrates the rites of spring, acts of generosity, the beauty of nature, and is destined to become the classic Easter book for generations to come.
