Golfers are invited to “Live United” by competing in the Atmos Energy Invitational Friday, Oct.10 benefiting the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties.
The four-man golf scramble will begin at 11 a.m. with lunch, registration and range balls with a shot gun start at noon at Indian Hills Golf Course on South Church Street.
Atmos sales manager Brian Hercules chairs the United Way campaign with a $3 million goal this year.
“Our slogan for United Way is ‘Live United,’” Hercules said. “This is an opportunity for people to Live United.”
Golfers may participate in an event they enjoy and make an impact in the community by giving to United Way, he said.
Atmos Energy meter reader J.J. Gillette developed the idea of making tournament affordable for people who wanted to play and contribute to United Way.
Gillette is a former assistant golf pro at Patuxent Greens Country Club in Laurel, Md. He intends to play in the tournament.
“We’re still looking for teams and we’d love for people to contact us,” Gillette said.
The field will be limited to the first 36 teams with awards given for the top three places in each of three flights. Single players are invited.
Cost is $320 for a team of four, $80 for single, $100 for a hole sponsor and $400 for a team and hole sponsor.
Door prizes and awards will be given at 5 p.m.
