ASK ANN: Take time to give thanks for blessings

In preparation for this week’s column, I ran across a quote by the late William Arthur Ward – “God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say ‘thank you?’”

Surely one second is not enough time to give thanks for the many blessings in our lives.

Thanksgiving is so much more than a time of celebration when we gather together with family and friends to partake of turkey and pumpkin pie.

To many of us it represents a special time of year when we stop and reflect on the blessings of life that God has given to us. It also presents a great opportunity for each of us to express our gratitude to those who have helped us along the way.

None of us would be where we are today with out the help and support of family, friends and others.

There are times when we owe our gratitude to complete strangers.

People who go out of their way, risking their own well being or giving of their financial resources, to lend us a helping hand.

Occasionally we will see the face of these givers and have an opportunity to say “thank you” if we take advantage of the moment.

Often, they will vanish from our lives as quickly as they have entered them.

Let’s give thanks that we live in a community that lives up to the tradition of volunteerism for which our state is known.

In each of the last two years, Murfreesboro and the surrounding area has been touched by natural disasters – the tornado in 2009 and the floods earlier this year.

Neighbors and strangers, too many to count or name, rose to the occasion and worked to help restore a normalcy of life to those directly impacted by the tragedies.

As impressive as it may be, it’s not just our responsiveness to disaster that sets our community apart.

Our community has continually demonstrated an ongoing spirit of generosity and giving when it comes to supporting non-profit causes.

It’s been said that Murfreesboro has more charitable causes (and successful fundraisers) per capita than other cities of comparable size.

If that is true, it testifies to the fact that individuals who live and work here are willing to give time and money to the community.

In closing, please allow me to say thank you to the many individuals who have helped me throughout the year.

The names have been omitted for two reasons – the list of contributors would be too long to print in this column…and I fear overlooking someone.

Over the last few years and during a difficult time in our industry, Ann Hoke & Associates has become one of the top producing teams in Middle Tennessee and the Southeast.

Our success has been greatly impacted by the servant attitude of the team that directly supports me on a daily basis.

Without them, there is no Ann Hoke & Associates.

But we also know that our team extends way beyond our logo.

Along the way, we have been aided by countless professionals, vendors, suppliers and associates – many of which have gone the extra mile time and time again to help our clients and AHA finish the deal.

Thanks to all of you.

To the individuals and families that we’ve helped buy or sell a home (more than100 in the past year), thanks for allowing us to serve you.

And, thanks so much for the kind words, testimonials and referrals that you’ve shared with our team.

Happy Thanksgiving!
