Tropical storm Fay has brought much-needed rain to the mid-state, dropping more than 4 inches to parts of Rutherford County.

The county has seen an average of 2.3 inches of rain over the past two days with more than 2 inches falling Monday, according to the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network.

Officially 2.31 inches of rain have fallen in Murfreesboro at the National Weather Service station.

Western and southern parts of Rutherford County have seen the most rain with 4.24 inches and 2.75 inches respectively, according to CoCoRahs precipitation records.

The isolated, localized heavy rain prompted a flash flood warning from the NWS, which is in effect until Wednesday morning for Rutherford County as Fay makes her way through Tennessee.

According to NWS, more heavy rain is expected throughout today that may produce rapid run off and increase the chances for flash flooding.

NWS also predicts some streams and creeks may rise from all the rainfall and reminds motorists to not drive through water on flooded roadways.

As of this morning, the eye of tropical depression Fay is centered over northern Alabama and moving steadily northeast, according to NWS.

The NWS expects a steady rain to fall east of Interstate 65 with isolated heavy rains to the south and east of Nashville.

By the time Fay exits Tennessee, rainfall totals will range from less than an inch in the northeast to more than 5 inches in the eastern half of the state.
