An awards reception will be held from 4-5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 10 at the Murfreesboro City Hall Rotunda for the Business Education Partnership’s “Arts for Education” art contest.
More than 50 works were submitted for the contest and are currently on display in the rotunda.
Based on the theme “The World Around Us”, the pieces include painting, photography, mixed media, sketching and graphic design works. All were submitted by K-12 students in Rutherford County and will be judged in K-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-8th, and 9th-12th grade categories. The winning first, second, and third place pieces in each level and the Best of Show will be announced at the reception. Last year’s winners will also be recognized.
Also to be featured during the reception are 12 world travel posters and 13 fashion designs created by advanced students in MTSU’s Textile, Merchandising and Design department from the class of Lauren Rudd.
The travel posters and the “Arts for Education” winning student pieces will be included in the auction for the BEP’s “Arts for Education: An International Evening” fundraiser on February 25th, 2011 at the MTMC Bell Street Center in Murfreesboro. Proceeds from the sale of the art will go towards BEP programming for Murfreesboro City and Rutherford County educators and students, including the BC³ Academy for Math and Science Study Enhancement and the BEP/Nissan Teacher Mini-Grant program.
The “Arts for Education” reception is free and open to the public. For tickets and more information for “An International Evening” call (615) 278-2008 or visit www.rutherfordbep.org.
