A group of old friends from MTSU are getting together to showcase their artwork and they have invited the public to take a look.

“We basically invited a few friends and graduates of MTSU to put a show together to showcase what we have been doing lately,” said organizer John Schramlin.

Titled “One Night Art Show in the Boro,” the show will feature a mixture of social, political and environmental works in a variety of mediums.

The free show is slated for Sept. 13 from 6-10 p.m. at The Vine at 118 W. Vine St., across the street from Murfreesboro City Hall. Refreshments will be served and a two-piece band will provide musical entertainment.

Schramlin said the artists’ styles range from “colorful, Dr. Suess like creations to simple, repetitions of geometric forms.

"Overall, this show is about social, political, and environmental issues, but more than that, it’s about making art and having fun,” he said.

Featured artists include: Joey Tigert, Tarri Driver, Jeff Bertrand, James Clark, Charles Bennett, Charles Clary and Schramlin.

Schramlin describes Bertrand’s work as “low-brow, graffiti-style art inspired by pop surrealism and tattoos. His works have a raw, urban feel to them and look like something Salvidor Dali might do if he worked for Disney Land.”

He said Driver's works are “small, cartoon caricature drawings of her self, each of which, are about the self and the struggles we deal with every day.”

And Tigert’s art is focused on “social issues and the strife between the people who have and the people who do not,” Schramlin said.
