I find this interesting. If this had been any other person and there was a possibilty of drinking involved it would have been put in ink the minute this story hit. It's funny how only some of our Lawmakers and Enforcers are protected. I guess it depends on who you are and how much $$$ you have.
He'll surrender when he is ready???? Ok, tell the average joe they can surrender when they are ready. We know that doesnt happen.

First, the possibility of DUI appeared in ink in pretty short order. It's not just now hitting the news. The wreck was late on 2/7. The news first hit 2/8. The DUI issue was widely reported as early as 2/10. One of many examples: http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070209/NEWS02/702090415/1009/NEWS
Second, they didn't say he'd "surrender when he is ready". That's the kind of spin we usually accuse the media of. What they said was "Mr. Cooper will surrender and will be served with the warrant when he is physically able."
As late as Saturday, the prosecutor in his fraud trial agreed to a 12-week continuance b/c of Cooper's condition after speaking w/his doctor: http://www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_101925.asp
I'd be the last to defend anything he has done, but based on that article, his injuries include "cerebral concussion, multiple fractured ribs and other serious injuries." It hasn't been two weeks since the wreck. You guys are being kind of harsh here.

Can we say "SPECIAL FAVORS" boys and girls?
I guarantee if I or most of the readers of this paper were to be arrested for dui, everyone in the free world would know what your blood alcohol level was at the time of the arrest irregardless of your physical condition.

from the posted comments it seems we are st least somewhat cynical of politicians in general and rightly so I might add.
It has been said that politicians are like diapers... They need to be changed often and for the same reason.
So, why do you people keep reelecting the same old bunch?

This man is a disgrace to state government. If he had any morals or ethics (keep in mind he's being investigated for God-knows how many illegalities) he would resign his post effective immediately.
I'll be willing to bet money he blames all his actions on alcoholism (the celebrity crutch) and says he's entering rehab as part of his attempt to excuse his inexcusable actions.

The only "bright" spot in this debacle is he was at least supporting a Tennessee industry giant, the bottle of Jack Daniels!
Had it been Jim Beam - off with his head!

elguapo- Your are sooo right! AND whatcha wanna bet he will either check into rehab as sechappell said or his "injuries" will not have "healed enough" for him to show up in court in March as he is scheduled to do? We all know that all you can do for fractured ribs is tape them and move about carefully for a while. key word being "move about" to avoid pneumonia, so I wonder if he will be able to walk across the courtroom to the witness box and set himself down. He may heal too soon and have to show up, but then there is always rehab, that will buy him about 30 days is all else fails. This man won't be in court in March and probably not in my lifetime.

Y'all lighten up on poor ol' Senator Cooper. He hasn't been convicted of anything yet! The state's best evidence appears to be his blood alcohol analysis... which was taken without his permission; I thought (believe) that the U.S. Constitution protects us from "being forced" to testify against ourselves. Of course, it has become routine to violate our "civil rights" that are "guaranteed" in the Constitution! It also appears that many "routine" procedures were ignored in his case; a good legal team will use that to mediate or avoid any punishment. If y'all keep chirpin' away, he'll probably get a change of venue! Maybe he'd get a fair hearing in his home county???
Let him keep on drinkin' that rot-gut Jack; I prefer that smooth Canadian blended stuff;
it's a lot easier on the tummy! LOL

Folks, aren't any of us law abiding citizens protected by the Constitution? I thought it included ALL citizeds! But if so, where is my right to walk down a street without getting mugged? Where is my right to drive my car without worrying about some drunk plowing into me? Where is my right to live in my own home without some theif breaking in and taking what I worked for? Seems to me that to have MY rights recognized I will have to break the law. Is there a state or Country that I could move to that would care about My rights?
