Detective Tommy Massey arrested and charged the individual responsible for the theft of a wallet on Aug. 13 at the Supercheap Tobacco Outlet.

The arrest came after his picture and a short video was posted by the media on Friday, Aug. 31. He recognized himself in the video and reported to the detective immediately.

"Although not a major crime, the success of being able to now prosecute the person responsible will be of satisfaction to the victim, for whom the crime was indeed important," Murfreesboro Police spokesman Kyle Evans said.

Victim Charles Smith reported he accidentally left his wallet on the counter after purchasing something from the store.

“(He) did not realize it until he had gotten outside of the store,” MPD Officer Deric Haynes reported. “When he went back in the wallet was gone.”

The suspect made a purchase right after Smith and can be seen on the surveillance footage sliding the wallet into his shirt pocket.
