No one was injured when an intruder fired a handgun at two victims during a home invasion just after midnight on Cranor Road, a Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office commander said.

Homeowners Michael Harris and Sally Michello arrived home and surprised three intruders that resulted in one intruder shooting at the victims with rounds striking the door frame of the vehicle, said Commander Preble Acton of the Criminal Investigations Division.

Cpl. Scott Martin said one of the suspects was struck by the victims’ vehicle while Harris and Michello defended themselves. While deputies searched for the suspects, Deputy Pat Garrett stopped a vehicle and learned the driver was believed to be one of the intruders.

Lt. Kenneth Barrett and his K-9, Becky, responded. Deputies apprehended a second intruder.

Acton said suspects Antonio Jenkins, 19, of Hazelwood Drive, and Rekardo Simmons, 19, of Sunset Avenue, were charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and theft. They are being held in Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

Detectives are focusing on the apprehension of the third suspect who was accused of shooting at the victims, Acton said.

“This is a serious situation in that you have those who were not only breaking into a home but brought a weapon to the event in what we can clearly say be used in case they were detected,” Acton said. “Detectives Steve Kohler and Bryant Gregory are working relentlessly to locate the third suspect.”
