A mother and her son hid in a closet after her intoxicated husband allegedly threatened them with a handgun Sunday, a sheriff’s corporal reported.

Victim Pam Hoak of Andover Drive in Smyrna called 911 after she accused her husband, Glenn, of carrying a silver handgun and yelling as he walked through the house, Cpl. Travis Robinson reported.

“He was acting crazy, putting me in fear of my life,” the wife told Robinson.

Dispatchers relayed instructions for the wife and child to climb out of the house through a bedroom window with help from Sgt. Ty Downing and other deputies while Robinson ordered the husband out of the home.

“He explained that he had a loaded handgun and wanted law enforcement to leave his property,” Robinson reported. “After a conversation through the window, it was revealed that he was intoxicated and angry.”

About 10 minutes later, the husband agreed to walk outside without a weapon, the corporal reported. He was searched and taking into custody. Robinson found two handguns near the window and front door inside the home.

When asked why he had a firearm, Hoak told deputies, “This is my house and I can do whatever I want,” Robinson reported.

Robinson charged the husband with aggravated domestic assault. He was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where a hearing was set Dec. 10 in General Sessions Court.

In an unrelated case, Deputy Casey McClure responded about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday to a domestic disagreement that escalated into a fire on North Road near Rockvale.

A male suspect was accused of setting fire to a mobile home and storage shed owned by relative JoAnn Payne of North Road, McClure reported.

Sgt. Bill Dunn contacted the suspect’s wife who reported they got into a verbal disagreement before he wrecked his truck into the mobile home and burned items in a bonfire, the deputy reported.

The owner of the mobile home didn’t want to prosecute.

Detective Randy Groce is investigating the fire while Detective Mickey McCullough is investigating the fight between the husband and wife. No charges were placed.
