CORNERSVILLE - The police chief and a highway patrol trooper confiscated 40 pounds of marijuana Tuesday morning from a car stopped on South Main Street where the driver and his passenger were arrested.
Charged with possession, delivery of a controlled substance in a drug free school zone are James Earl Bragg Jr., 26, Murfreesboro, and Tamira Thomas, 24, Atlanta, Ga. His bond is $250,000. Her's is $100,000. They were still in jail Wednesday morning.
Police Chief Todd Bone stopped the couple after Bragg allegedly passed a car driving at 29 mph, Bone said. Bragg drove across he double center lines. While speaking with the driver, the chief could smell marijuana, he said.
A drug-sniffing dog managed by the state was brought to the scene and indicated that illegal drugs were in the car. They were found in a duffle bag on the back seat with Thomas.
Assisting Bone was Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Wayne Dunkleman.
The traffic stop was at about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday. The couple was in custody by about 8:15 a.m. Bone drove the marijuana to the state crime lab in Donelson, leaving the suspects in the Marshall County Jail.
The car was reportedly a rental vehicle with rental papers from an office in New Mexico.
Bragg and Thomas are due in Marshall County General Sessions Court on Oct. 27. |
