A beloved wife and mother, Mrs. Annie Dee Dawson, Age 92, of Murfreesboro, TN, died on December 29, 2009.
Born in Mayfield, KY, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO, where she studied art under the guidance of Thomas Hart Benton and Grant Wood. After lovingly raising her family, she chose to continue her education receiving her masters degree in psychology at the age of 56. She served 30 years with the Rutherford County School System retiring as Assistant Principal for Central Middle School at the age of 79.
A talented artist, herself, she was an avid collector of American antiquities embracing the folk art of our country and assimilating an impressive collection in her lifetime. She kindly shared this collection with her community, opening her home to the public on several occasions.
A fun-loving member of the Red Hat Society and a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, she will be missed by her longtime friends who enjoyed her frequent luncheons, bridge games and the ever-ready smile of this very gracious woman. She was always optimistic and faced extreme adversity with fortitude, graciousness and a determination marked with remarkable resilience and perseverance. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by husband, Roy Dawson; parents, Isabelle Elliott and Benjamin Wright Saffold of Mayfield, KY; and brother, Thomas "Buddy" (Betty) Saffold of Oklahoma City, OK.
