Allen Mason Sr., 89, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013.
Mr. Mason was a native of Beech Grove, TN, and the son of the late William Ewin and Jessie Junia Shelton Mason. He was also preceded in death by a son, Garry Mason.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Friday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Rev. Nathan Hale will officiate. Burial will be in Wards Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Mason is survived by his wife, Myra Sneed Mason; son, Allen Mason, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl of Murfreesboro, TN; two daughters, Shirley Whitmore and her husband, Alan, and Wanda Nulton both of Murfreesboro, TN; six grandchildren, Lisa Whitmore, Dillon, Megan, and Morgan Mason, Ralph and Wesley Baxter; two great-grandchildren, Ellie Kate and Kason Baxter; many nieces and nephews, with one nephew calling him his Hero.
Mr. Mason was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and former trustee for many years. He started work at age 13, and skipped two grades in school, because of high intellectual values. He had a thriving business known as Broadway Mobil at the corner of Broad and Church Street in Murfreesboro, which was believed to be the first business of its kind to be, opened 24-7. It was the first station in Murfreesboro to employ girls for station attendants. His employees to him were as close as family. He also enjoyed his hobby as a Bee-Keeper. He said “I always want to be nice to people”. Comments made from customers and friends were, “He’s the nicest friendlist person I ever met”.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
