The portable my daughter has classes in does not have restrooms. It is cold in there. Good call Gill. Gill needs to work on Mayor Burgess to get the new schools built and kids out of portables. Burgess just thinks of himself and his people that he has put in high places that don't need to be there. He will NOT get my vote at election time.

I don't know about the portables, but on my way to work I see plenty of kids waiting for the bus improperly dressed for cold weather. Now, whether that's just do to parents' stupidity in letting there kids do what they want, or the unfortunate possibility that those few clothes are all those kids have, I have to agree with the decision to call off school.

Burgess didn't get my vote the first time!!! I do agree with closing the schools tomorrow because of the weather.

This is the absurd thing I have heard of the school system doing yet. It might snow so school is closed, its going to be cold so school is closed. Hey guess what it might get wet in the spring...

I thought it was kind of silly too when I read the headline. Then I actually read the story. Portables that do not hold proper heat and it was 8 degrees at 8:00 a.m. this morning...I'd say if I had children I wouldn't want them sitting in conditions like this. How will they learn with their teeth chattering. And how many children in this community do not have the proper clothing for this type of weather? It is not something we are really use to. So I was wrong in being so quick to judge.
On another note, is it really the Mayor's fault schools aren't getting built? Or is it a financial decision? I do not live in this county, therefore I really do not know the answer.

Rutherford County School Director wants to move forward. He knows whats best for the kids. Oh but "Burgess wants to postpone them for one year to avoid a tax increase" Nothing will ever get done if Burgess stays in as mayor. He will Fire Someone in a heartbeat just because he knows he can "Fire at Will"

Two of my three small children have class in a portable. They go to school with coats, they know if its cool they can put on their coat, which one often does. (she likes it warmer than the teacher.) I went to school two years that had no air conditing. I was the only child in the classroom that brought a fan from home. This was not that long ago. I am 41. And oh yes I walked to school the first 5 years. This was in Nashville and you people out here in the country are getting soft.
