Alberta Gum Wilson, age 94, of Murfreesboro passed from life on this earth on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017.

She was a native of the Kittrell-Murray Community and was preceded in death by her husband, Guy L. Wilson, who passed away in 1970. Mr. Wilson was a World War II veteran and custom home builder who built homes in Rutherford County during the 1950s and 1960s.

Mrs. Wilson was also preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Hall Gum and Mattie Wilson Gum, and her brothers William Hall Gum and Doyle Wilson Gum.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by her children, Loretta Wilson of Crestview, Florida, and Guy Eugene Wilson and his wife Maggie of Greenville, North Carolina; and her grandson, Guy Alexander Wilson, of Nashville.

Mrs.Wilson worked in Oak Ridge, Tennessee from 1944 until 1947, and was one of the "Calutron Girls," working both alpha and beta units in the Y-12 complex. While she was working in Oak Ridge, Mrs. Wilson met her future husband, and they married in 1948. She was a 50-year member of Murfreesboro Chapter 363 Order of the Eastern Star and a Alumna member of Alpha Gama Delta Sorority. Mrs. Wilson held active membership in Rutherford County Home Demonstration Clubs for more than 50 years, beginning as a member of the Bethel Club until she established the Northridge Club in 1973. She served as County Council President in 1971.

Mrs. Wilson was a Girl Scout Troop Leader and followed her daughter Loretta through Brownies (age 7) to Seniors (12th grade). She was a homemaker and loved to read, enjoyed sewing and was an avid quilter. Mrs. Wilson was an original member of Kingwood (Heights) Church of Christ since its establishment in 1948, and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Wilson will be greatly missed by her children, grandson, loved ones and friends.

Friends may send flowers or make a contribution in Mrs. Wilson's memory to the Kingwood Church of Christ or to their favorite charity.

Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro. The funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel; Joe Rushing will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.www.woodfinchapel.com
