An 18-year-old man accused of having sex with a 13-year-old girl was charged with felony rape Monday, Murfreesboro Police reported Thursday.

Suspect Spencer R. Taylor of Hartford City, Ind., was charged after an interview with Detective Wayne Lawson.

“Taylor admitted having sexual intercourse with the victim,” Detective Wayne Lawson reported. “He also admitted that he knew she was 13 years of age. Mr. Taylor did claim that the victim consented to the sexual activity.”

Lawson spoke to the girl who told him she did not consent to have sex with Taylor.

The detective charged Taylor and booked him in at Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. A hearing was set Sept. 22 in General Sessions Court.
