The hottest days of the year so far are expected this weekend.

This warm weather arrives right on time. The official start of the summer season will be at 12:46 a.m. Sunday, June 21.

Temperatures will climb into the lower to mid-90s across the mid-state with heat index values between 100 and 105 degrees.

The expected high for Friday in Nashville is about 96 degrees. The normal high is 86 and the record high is 100 degrees.

Temperatures in Nashville last hit 95 degrees on Aug. 20 in 2008. It has been a while, so it is a good idea to review some heat safety rules.

Murfreesboro and Rutherford County should see similar daily highs in the mid-90s with lows in the mid-70s.

The elderly, small children and people with certain health concerns are most at risk during hot weather.

Strenuous activities should be reduced or rescheduled for the cooler parts of the day.

Lightweight and light colored clothing is best.

Drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids.

Avoid prolonged sun exposure and sunburns.

Stay in air-conditioned placed if possible.

I am with the 269th MP Co stationed in Iraq and love reading the Murfreesboro Post cause it keeps me informed with what is going on back home. Just wanted you to know that temps here in Samarra have been up to 120 so far and that is when you realize that it is all what you are used to. That and drink water, drink water, and drink water...
