Murfreesboro Medical Clinic celebrates 65 years of being one of Middle Tennessee’s most trusted healthcare providers. MMC is a multi-specialty facility that offers many skilled physicians all in one location.
One of the most notable aspects of MMC’s philosophy is that of a multi-disciplinary approach to health and wellness. Having all of their physicians and practitioners under one roof, means quick and efficient communication between
departments, making delayed actions and responses to patients a thing of the past.
“Our sole mission is to provide the best healthcare for our patients,” said MMC President, Dr. Jimmy Carter. “MMC’s services are unique, in being able to use a team approach with our colleagues to provide the best treatment options under one roof.”
Founded in July 1949, Murfreesboro Medical Clinic (MMC) has had a profound impact on the course of medicine in Rutherford County. Together, Dr. Carl Adams and Dr. S.C. Garrison brought the theory of the multi-specialty group
practice to the area, providing the community with quality health care to thousands of families each year. Their legacy developed into an independently owned physicians’ clinic and has grown to include 21 different specialties.
Since the beginning, MMC has been a viable force in Rutherford County for the practice of modern medicine both in the
practitioner’s office and in the hospital, said former MMC Physician Robert G. Ransom in his published work, “The History of Medicine in Rutherford County, Tennessee.”
The MMC initiative of “going beyond the walls of the clinic” to serve the health care needs of patients created a deeper awareness within the community and the need to expand their walls to house each of the 21 specialties in one location. While experiencing significant growth and change since their doors opened in 1949, their long-term success is directly tied to that initiative as a constant reminder of the importance of focusing on patient care.
MMC has always had a heart for their patients, staff and the community. Providing excellent and affordable patient care has always been top priority. “The thing that has set MMC apart for years has been the physicians not only providing a great standard of care but truly caring about the patients,” said MMC Human Resource Director Nell Womack-Moore.
Today, MMC employs more than 70 physicians for a total of nearly 600 staff members. The medical specialists include
Internal and Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Allergy and Immunology, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology (ENT), Plastic Surgery, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Neurology, Podiatry, Rheumatology, Vascular Surgery, Urology, Physiatry, Anesthesiology, Orthopaedics, and Radiology (including general radiology, digital mammography, ultrasound, CT, MRI, and bone densitometry.)
Additionally, MMC offers a Spine, Joint, and Pain Center as well as the Comprehensive Breast Center. Beyond traditional services offered by the specialists, patients can also benefit from Murfreesboro’s only dermatology-supervised medi-spa, U Medi Spa, and the physician-directed weight management program, Weight Loss and Wellness.
Being on the forefront of technology to provide the best possible care for patients has been another focus of MMC’s. MMC was one of the first clinics in Rutherford County to establish an Electronic Health Record. It was a huge undertaking on the clinic staff and physicians. It established a more efficient system for physicians and patients. Today, patients can view their electronic medical record, request appointments and prescription refills using an online services known as MMC & Me.
MMC Now is another service that is unique to the clinic. Patients with acute needs and common illnesses – coughs and colds, headaches, rash, ear infections, urinary tract infections, sinus/allergies – are treated by physicians and certified Nurse Practitioners, without an appointment. They also administer vaccinations and pregnancy testing.
Different from other Walk-In Clinics, MMC Now providers can access current patient’s records and speak with doctors to provide the best diagnosis for the problem. MMC Now has two locations, Lascassas Pike and New Salem Highway.
The clinic currently serves more than 35,000 patients each month and averages 1,650 patients per day. The SurgiCenter performs over 725 surgical and procedural cases each month.
MMC thanks its patients for continuing to turn to MMC for their healthcare. “This community has put their trust in the hands of our physicians, surgeons and nurses for 65 years.” said MMC CEO Joey Peay. “Because of them we are able to provide the best all-around care and offer more services to the community.”
Murfreesboro Medical Clinic was established on a firm foundation of the highest quality health care and patient-
centered wellness. More than a clinic, they have created a new health care experience for patients, their families, staff, and the community.
