Blackman, Siegel girls fall in region bowling tourney
Blackman and Siegel's girls bowling teams saw their seasons end Wednesday at Smyrna Bowling Center in the Region 4 bowling tournament. The Lady Stars, who won the District 7 tournament, fell to Lawrence County in the region semifinals 21-6. Blackman, which was the District 7 tournament runner-up, lost to Columbia Central in postseason tournament action for the third straight season. This time Blackman lost 20-7.

County tournament still attracts many fans
It's been a tradition in Rutherford County for many decades. The event that brings communities countywide together can be traced back before World War II. Every year in January people from Kittrell to Eagleville gather at a school to watch the Rutherford County Elementary Tournament.

Riverdale wrestling clinches berth in region duals
Every match Riverdale's wrestling team seems to improve a little bit. The Warriors improve their technique and get a little tougher. Against Siegel Tuesday night at La Vergne High School, Riverdale put together a solid performance when it needed it. Sparked by three straight pins in the 135-, 140- and 145-pound weight classes, the Warriors built an insurmountable lead against Siegel en route to a 47-27 win.

Stockstill named TSWA coach of year
MTSU's Rick Stockstill was named Tennessee Sports Writers Association Coach of the Year on Sunday by the state's media organization. It marks the third time in the last seven years a Blue Raiders coach has won the award.
