Screams from a 2-year-old twin alerted a man to grab her brother found convulsing face down in the bathtub and begin pumping his stomach until the toddler heaved water out Monday night, a sheriff’s deputy reported.

The boy was treated at Middle Tennessee Medical Center where a doctor notified the Department of Children’s Services and the sheriff’s office because of the boy’s condition and old bruises on his body, Deputy Roscoe Sanders reported.

A doctor “became concerned when the mother’s boyfriend stated that the child was left unmonitored in a bathtub for 30 minutes,” Sanders reported.

The mother told Sanders she put the twins in the bathtub and asked her boyfriend to watch them while she ran errands. He was on the computer when her heard the twin girl screaming. He found the boy convulsing and treated him before calling the mother who called paramedics.

Paramedics treated the boy en route to the medical center. The doctor examined the toddler who was blue with altered loss of consciousness and a low body temperature. He was in stable condition but kept in the hospital overnight for observation.

Detective D.J. Jackson and DCS are investigating.

Why in the world would she put two two-year-olds in a bathtub and then leave to "run errands?" It wouldn't have taken her 20 minutes to bathe them.

Sign of the sad times when no one pays for the consequences of their actions, except the babies...and before self=righteous Christian Right gets on me, you folks don't give a damn about real-live born infants in such situations...

I took my son in to check a blister on his finger when he was 2 - their first question to me was who burned him on the stove!!! MERCY! I was shocked at the implication. It turned out to be impetigo. Good grief!

The Middle Tennessee Medical Center is very careless. I know for a fact. The doctors and nurses will look at people really strangely when a child has bruises. They love to call the police too. The nurses in the emergency room are most of the time too busy flirting with the police and don't have time to do anything. I would rather go to a different hospital in my opinion.

When my little ones were little, of course I had to take them every so often to the hospital, the wait time was sometimes 4 hours. The wait times at Gallatin are around 15 mins. It would be faster to drive all the way there and they would be seen 2 to 3 hours sooner.
