A 19-year-old man is facing aggravated child abuse charges in connection with a Tuesday incident.

Jacob “Jake” Emmitt Smith, 1306 Eagle St., was arrested by Murfreesboro Detective Wayne Lawson following an investigation at Middle Tennessee Medical Center’s emergency room.

“When I arrived I spoke with the mother of the victim and briefly to the 4-year-old victim. The victim had multiple bruises on both sides of her face,” Lawson reported. “The victim stated that ‘Jake’ threw her on her bed and ‘hit’ her in the face.”

Lawson interviewed Smith who allegedly admitted the incident.

“Mr. Smith admitted to striking the child in the face multiple times and stated that it started out as ‘slap boxing’ and may have gotten out of hand. Mr. Smith was charged with aggravated child abuse,” the detective said.

A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 30 in General Sessions Court.

First of all, who slap boxes a four your old child?

Secondly, "He threw her on the bed and hit her in the face." Hard enough to leave bruises?

Sounds to me like the beginning of a violent sexual assault. I'm curious to know if someone interrupted the violence.

Wonder if this punk would be willing to play a little "slap boxing" with an adult of his own size?
