Smyrna-based Springhouse Theatre Company, Rutherford County’s favorite live theatre company, launches its spectacular 2014-2015 season with its most sumptuous offering to date: “Singin’ In The Rain! “
Adapted from the 1952 movie, the stage version of “Singin’ In The Rain!” remains faithful to the original, much to the delight of fans of the Gene Kelly/Donald O’Conner/Debbie Reynolds collaboration. Set in Hollywood in the late 1920s, the story follows romantic lead Don Lockwood, his leading lady Lina Lamont and sidekick Cosmo Brown as they face the turbulent transition from silent films to the era of the “talkies.” New York actor and choreographer Justin Boccitto will be featured in the pivotal role of Don Lockwood.
“Singin’ In The Rain!” opens Springhouse Theatre Company’s 2014-2015 season with performances Sept. 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, 26 and 28.
Frank Capra’s beloved film, “It’s A Wonderful Life,” was nominated for five Academy Awards when it was released in 1946, and has since been recognized by the American Film Institute as one of the 100 best American films ever made. Despite those accolades, “It’s a Wonderful Life” was considered a box office flop and failed to earn a profit for RKO Radio Pictures during its initial release. Don’t tell that to the legion of fans to eagerly await reruns of the James Stewart/Donna Reed favorite every Christmas season.
"It's a Wonderful Life" is Springhouse Theatre Co.'s holiday offering for 2014, on stage for two weekendly only -- Dec. 5-7 and 12-14.
The middle of February cries out for a romantic comedy, and Lamplighter’s Theatre Company is happy to oblige. It is celebrating the Valentine’s season with the delightful romantic comedy, “Sabrina Fair.” Originally a Broadway hit, the stage play was adapted into an equally popular film, Sabrina, starring Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart, garnering six Oscar nominations and earning one for Best Costume Design. The 1995 Harrison Ford/Julia Ormond remake proved the script’s staying power, grabbing another pair of Academy Award nominations.
* Spring house Theatre Co. is thrilled to present the hit Broadway stage play, "Sabrina Fair," Feb. 13=14, 20-21, 27-28 and March 1.
