Employee misconduct inside the facility caused the fire Monday at Fireworks Supermarket off South Church Street, a multi-agency investigation determined.

Results of the investigation, released today by the Murfreesboro Fire Marshal’s office, will be presented to the District Attorney General’s office for review, Assistant Fire Marshal Carl Peas said.

Local, state and federal agencies have been involved in the nearly week-long investigation, including Murfreesboro Fire Department, Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department, Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the State Fire Marshal’s office and Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) and Murfreesboro’s departments of Building and Codes and Engineering.

The Fireworks Supermarket caught on fire after 5 p.m. rush hour, causing police to shut down both sides of Interstate 24 and the exit ramp onto South Church Street.

Gray smoke could be viewed from most of Murfreesboro. Colorful fireworks filled the dusk and evening skies for a show some emergency workers termed “better than MTSU.”

During an interview at the scene Monday, Assistant Fire Chief Gary Farley said two or three employees escaped the store without injury and no Murfreesboro firefighters suffered injuries in battling the blaze.

“Thankfully, no one was hurt,” Farley said. “I’m glad nobody got hurt. That’s the main thing.”

Employees escaped but didn’t have time to move their cars that burned.

Merchandise ranged from the simple fireworks to commercial fireworks, he said. Three to four cases of fireworks were located near the front door.

Umm, what was the misconduct? I think you forgot and left that part out of the story. I mean what did they do to start the fire.... Seems a big part to leave out of the story considering that is the title of the story.

The investigation is ongoing. They are obviously not releasing that key bit of information.

Hahaha, come on, why would you title the story that and not include the info. Did someone not proofread the story?

Billy Joel Says, "We Didn't Start The Fire."

If they're not going to release details, then why say anything at all? Just say that the investigation is pending...

Headlines sell papers-even free ones.

Why would you need 3 employees working in a firework store in October anyway? Not like there is going to be a rush on bottle rockets. When you put 3 people together with nothing to do you might as well expect horseplay.

yeah, it's kind of misleading that you would use that headline, and then say absolutely nothing else about it.

I'm just sayin'.......
