The Business Education Partnership at the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce recently announced the winners of the inaugural “Arts for Education” county-wide art competition, presented by Nissan North American and the Business Education Partnership at the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce. Eighty pieces were submitted from kindergarten-12th grade students. The art pieces were based on the theme of “the leaf electric” to celebrate the blend of artistry and technology that created “The Leaf”, Nissan’s new all-electric vehicle. The art was judged by local professional artists and art educators through the Murfreesboro/Rutherford Art League. There are 13 winners in five categories, and two honorable mentions. K-3rd grade Painting winners are as follows: First place, Addasyn Brewington, Mitchell-Neilson Primary School; Second place, Daniel Circost, Mitchell-Neilson Primary School; Third place, Nalatia Austin, Mitchell-Neilson Primary School. Tania Arevinas, Mitchell-Neilson Primary School, received an Honorable Mention. K-3rd grade Potpourri/Mixed Media winners are: First place, Hannah Wilbanks, Thurman Francis Academy; Second place, Trevor Sharber, Eagleville School; Third place, Karsen Daniel, Eagleville School. Cora Luper, Northfield Elementary, received an Honorable Mention. 4th-5th grade Painting winners are: First place, Hayden Jones, Northfield Elementary; Second Place, Jonathan Pendergrast, Roy Waldron Elementary; Third place, Madison Bohannon, Roy Waldron Elementary. 4th-5th grade Potpourri/Mixed Media winners are: First place, Jessica Jones, Rockvale School; Second place, Mia Simone Huell, Northfield Elementary; Third place, Cooper Baugh, Discovery School at Reeves-Rogers. In the 9th-12th grade Painting category, Katherine Scates, Smyrna High School, received honorary first place. All art is on display at the Murfreesboro City Hall Rotunda Art Gallery now through March 26th. Winning students will have their work featured at the silent auction for the BEP’s “Jazz Brunch and Art Auction” on March 28 and will receive their awards at the BEP’s annual “Adopt-A-School Celebration” luncheon in May. All proceeds from the event will go towards BEP programming for Murfreesboro City and Rutherford County educators and students, including the BC³ Academy for Math and Science Study Enhancement, BEP/Nissan Teacher Mini-Grants, Adopt-A-School Partnerships, and others.
